Same Day Crowns

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that is placed over a tooth — to cover the tooth to restore its shape and size, strength, and improve its appearance.

The crown, when cemented into place, fully encases the entire visible portion of a tooth that lies at and above the gum line.

Crowns are used to repair cracked or broken teeth that cannot be repaired with a filling. They are also used to protect teeth from breaking or fracturing after a root canal has been performed.

Nitrous Oxide (Inhalation Sedation)

Nitrous Oxide is a gas that is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a mask placed over your nose. This is often referred to as laughing gas or happy gas. This is a safe and effective form of sedation. The level of sedation is easily controlled and can be tailored to each patients needs. It gives you a calming sensation without the effects that are often experienced with IV sedation. The gas is eliminated from your body within 3 to 5 minutes once the gas supply is stopped. You can safely drive home.

Fillings

Fillings are the most common type of dental restoration. Teeth can be filled with gold, silver amalgam, or tooth-colored plastic materials called composite resin fillings. To treat a cavity your dentist will remove the decayed portion of the tooth and then “fill” the area on the tooth where the decayed material was removed.
Fillings are also used to repair cracked or broken teeth that have been worn down from misuse (such as from nail-biting or tooth grinding).

Vaneers

Dental veneers (sometimes called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates) are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their color, shape, size, or length.

Dental veneers can be made from porcelain or from resin composite materials. Porcelain veneers resist stains better than resin veneers and better mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth. Resin veneers are thinner and require removal of less of the tooth surface before placement. You will need to discuss the best choice of veneer material for you with your dentist.

Implant Restoration

Implants are replacement tooth roots. Implants are actually a small post made of metal that are placed into the bone socket where teeth are missing. The implant is covered with a replacement tooth called a crown.

A specialist such as an Oral Surgeon or Periodontist will place the implant into the bone socket. After a healing period you will return to our office for the placement of the porcelain crown.

Implants are often recommended for the replacement of a tooth that has been extracted or for a missing tooth that never formed properly.

Root Canals

A root canal is a treatment to repair and save a badly damaged or infected tooth. The procedure involves removing the damaged area of the tooth (the pulp), cleaning and disinfecting it and then filling and sealing it. The common causes affecting the pulp are a cracked or broken tooth, a deep cavity, repeated dental treatment to the tooth or trauma. The term “root canal” comes from cleaning of the canals inside the tooth’s root.

Tooth Extraction and Removal

A tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth. Reasons for a tooth extraction include decayed or broken teeth. They may also be removed to make room for other teeth or an orthodontia treatment. Throughout history, tooth removal has been used to treat a variety of illnesses before the discovery of antibiotics as chronic tooth infections were linked to a number of ailments. There are two main types of tooth extractions: simple extractions and surgical extractions. Simple extractions are performed on visible teeth in the mouth under local anesthesia. The tooth is loosened from its socket and then removed with dental forceps. Surgical extraction is a more complicated procedure done on teeth that have broken under the gum line or have not fully erupted and is generally done under general anesthesia.

Bridges

Bridges are false teeth that are designed to “bridge” the gap created by one or more missing teeth. Bridges can be anchored on either side by crowns and cemented permanently into place.

Dentures and Partial Dentures

Dentures are removable false teeth designed to replace missing teeth. Your dentist may recommend complete (full) dentures or partial dentures, depending on how many natural teeth you have lost. Dentures can be created to match your existing teeth, so they are not very noticeable. However, getting used to dentures can take a little practice, particularly when it comes to eating and speaking. Dentures must be brushed daily, just like your regular teeth. Your dentist will tell you how to do this.

Teeth Whitening

All toothpastes help remove surface stains, because they contain mild abrasives. Some whitening toothpastes contain gentle polishing or chemical agents that provide additional stain removal effectiveness. Whitening toothpastes can help remove surface stains only and do not contain bleach; over-the-counter and professional whitening products contain carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide that helps lighten the color deep in the tooth. Whitening toothpastes can lighten the tooth’s color by about one shade. In contrast, light-activated whitening conducted in your dentist’s office can make your teeth three to eight shades lighter.
